Our Youth Counselling service is open to people who are between the ages of 11 and 17 at the start of their sessions.
It is open to all individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and includes people who are currently questioning their gender/sexuality, as well as people who have previously identified as LGBTQ+. You don’t have to identify as LGBTQ+ to access our counselling service.
We are also here to support you if you have a family member such as a sibling, care giver or other family member who is LGBTQ+, or if you are friends with an LGBTQ+ person and would like space to talk about and understand what this means to you.
Quite often parents or care givers make referrals on behalf of a person under the age of 18. It is important that if you are an adult making a referral on behalf of someone under the age of 18, that you have talked about why you would like to refer them, and that they have given their express consent.
We will only work with young people who have requested or consented to counselling.
If you are the parent or care giver of a young person, you may find our FAQ’s and families/allies information supportive. Both of these are in the menu above. If you are under the age of 18 and making a referral for yourself, you may not always need parent or carer consent. However, we must ensure that you are safe and fully understand the counselling process.
As part of your pre-counselling assessment, we will ask you some extra questions to understand your capacity to make informed decisions.
Please see our FAQ’s for further information. Please note that we are currently only accepting self-referrals. If you are a member of an organisation that would like to make a referral, please direct your client to our website.
